How much does scar revision surgery cost?

The cost of scar revision varies by individual patient, and depends largely on the size, type, and scope of your scar, as well as the type of procedure that will be required to treat it and the number of treatments necessary. Generally, scar revision surgery is less costly than typical cosmetic surgery, and in some cases, treatment may be covered in part by health insurance. Scar revision treatments are typically comprised of three specific costs: the fee for anesthesia, the facility fee, and the actual fee for the surgery. Scar revision treatments may range in price between $500 and $3,000. While most medical insurance companies do not cover elective cosmetic procedures, there are some exceptions to this rule. If, for example, your scar revision surgery is to treat scars received as a result of an accident or injury, or if a doctor deems the procedure to be medically necessary to restore normal function to a certain part of your body, your treatment may be eligible for full or partial coverage. Check with your health insurance carrier before planning your surgery. Most companies require pre-authorization. If health insurance is not an option in your case, you may consider financing the cost of the procedure.
